This is a live jazz gig listings service from Jazz in Reading. We feature mostly modern jazz gigs happening within 20 miles or so of Reading.

The listings used to be published monthly, under the name 'Jazz Round About Reading', but all gigs now appear in the calendar, the link for which is below left. Check it out whenever you feel the urge to hear live jazz. Don't forget to refresh your browser each time you visit, to be sure of catching all latest changes or additions. Please check with venues before setting off - all details may be subject to change.

Musicians, promoters and venues should send their gig information to us via the Submit Your Gig form. Please note that the details you submit will be checked and edited before being approved for publication. We reserve the right to make amendments before publication if we consider the content inappropriate or inaccurate.

Sheena Caprice is an inspiring jazz vocalist, who began singing at the age of four. Her passion for Jazz was heavily influenced by greats such as Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter and Nina Simone. Her performances also reflect more contemporary artists such as Rachelle Ferrell and Dianne Reeves. Sheena has performed at various venues, including Sky Lounge at Castle View Windsor.

Sixteen times winner of the British Jazz Award for best pianist, Dave Newton has worked with a galaxy of jazz stars from Alan Barnes to the great American clarinettist Buddy de Franco while Stuart Henderson, formerly principal trumpet of The Scots Guards, has also become a leading figure on the UK jazz scene. Starting his professional career in 1986 with the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, tenor saxophonist Robert Fowler has gone on to play with a wide variety of leading jazz musicians as well as touring with rock singer Brian Ferry. Robert’s quintet, which includes Colin Oxley (g) and Robin Aspland (p), will be celebrating the music of the legendary songwriters Rodgers and Hart.

Jan Steele is a composer and plays jazz saxophone, clarinet and flute. He studied at London and York Universities, has written music for Channel 4 documentaries and has played all over Europe. He leads various bands ranging from contemporary music to Afro-Cuban/Latin Jazz.

An evening of musical encounters that could embrace jazz, free improv, electronica, hymns, rhythm and noise and beyond. Pat Thomas is one of the UK’s most creative pianists and keyboard players who has been playing with saxophonist Tim Hill for many years. Tim lived and played in Reading in the 1980s and 90s and was one of the first people to put on music at the arts centre, with many wild evenings that included Pat. Both of them also regularly play with Readings own pioneering guitarist Mike Cooper.

The quartet is a contemporary jazz group appearing regularly at gigs in Hampshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. The band create their own modern interpretations of jazz standards as well as presenting original compositions. They play modern and contemporary jazz standards – from artists such as Herbie 
Hancock, Joshua Redman, Michael Brecker and Miles Davis – in an energetic and adventurous style. You can expect to hear a fresh take on familiar jazz tunes.

UK born, New York based trumpeter Alexandra Ridout is one of the most talented young musicians on the international scene. Internationally renowned jazz pianist and Steinway artist Lenore Raphael plays tribute to two great jazz masters: pianist Oscar Peterson and alto saxophonist Sonny Stitt, famously recorded on the 1959 album “Sonny Stitt Sits in with the Oscar Peterson Trio”.
