Charismatic and visionary trumpet player and composer Mark Kavuma and his sextet present their new album ‘Magnum Opus’ featuring original compositions, arrangements and performances by leading members of the British jazz scene. Released last Autumn, the album was launched at a sold-out Queen Elizabeth Hall (Southbank Centre) as part of the London Jazz Festival.

The band were formed on Alver Street, New Orleans where one night, tired and happy, its founder members listened to the tree frogs singing their song and decided to form a band that would breathe life into music long forgotten, music that made the streets of New Orleans a place to dance and party in the 20s, 30s and 40s, music that is so hip you’ll want to hop around and dance to it.

Denny Ilett stands out as a versatile and accomplished musician, seamlessly navigating genres while maintaining a distinct musical identity. A self-taught guitarist, vocalist, bandleader, composer, arranger, and teacher, Denny’s musical explorations span jazz, blues, big band, contemporary classical, orchestral, rock, soul, funk, and psychedelia. He has collaborated with a diverse range of renowned musicians, including funk legend Pee Wee Ellis, conductor Charles Hazlewood, Will Gregory (Goldfrapp), Adrian Utley (Portishead), soul artist Lewis Taylor, Paul Jones (Manfred Mann), trumpet virtuoso Bobby Shew, and New Orleans vocalist Lillian Boutté, with whom he toured globally for over two decades as musical director.
Denny will be supported by an exceptional band: Andy Crowdy on bass, Clark Tracey on drums and the one and only Art Themen on saxophone.

The Blackhawk Quintet present an evening of cool jazz in tribute to the legendary drummer Shelley Manne, one of the greats of the 1950s West Coast jazz scene. The centrepiece of the music is inspired by a clutch of golden quintet performances captured live at The Black Hawk Jazz Club in San Francisco between 22 and 24 September 1959. The stellar line-up comprises Jim Davison (trumpet), Mark Crooks (tenor sax), Leon Greening (piano), Conor Chaplin (double bass), and Matt Skelton (drums & leader).

Celebrate Guildford Heritage Open Day with an afternoon of Big Band music on the Guildford Castle Bandstand showcasing two great local bands – ‘Junction 4’ and ‘Rhythm & Groove’. Based on the Hampshire/Surrey border, Junction 4 are a dynamic 18-piece ensemble, brimming with energy and style and performing everything from 1930s swing to modern chart hits including Basie, Caro Emerald, Nirvana and Pharell Williams. Godalming-based Rhythm and Groove are an 18-piece outfit with a wide repertoire ranging from the swing of Benny Goodman to the modern arrangements of Gordon Goodwin, with some Buddy Rich thrown in for those who like high energy tunes. The band is composed mainly of music graduates and professionals, who enjoy making fantastic music together, and sharing their enthusiasm for the music in live performance.

Sheena Caprice in an inspiring jazz vocalist, who began singing at the age of four. Her performances also reflect more contemporary artists such as Rachelle Ferrell and Dianne Reeves. Sheena has performed at various venues, including Sky Lounge at Castle View Windsor.

28 July – 1 August 2025 – Henley Jazz Workshop for adult beginners and improvers will be holding its annual workshop at Valley Road School in Henley, featuring an impressive tutor line-up of Karen Sharp, Alex Clarke, Simon Allen and Denny Ilett, with Andy Crowdy overseeing the workshop as musical director. With emphasis on improvisation techniques, but still small-group based, this year’s places are going quickly.
The workshop culminates with an evening meal and drinks on 1 August, at the stunning Oaken Grove Vineyard in Fawley with the groups performing their favourite numbers.Please check availability before booking! Cost is £415 for the week, half price for those aged 18-25.

Fronted by the exuberant Annie Parker on flute and bass flute, this joyful quartet of musicians simply enjoy playing jazz together in sometimes slightly unexpected and spontaneous ways. With a repertoire that spans Miles Davis to the Beatles, expect an evening of great music in good company!
