HoT (jazz on Line) BiscuitS features for your pleasure sounds from harpist Maria-Christina Harper’s recent CD `Passing by`. A three piece harp led jazz fusion outfit. Also featured in this weeks broadcast is a powerful song from Evelyn Laurie reflecting on our times with, `Sympathy.` This is followed by the GTO Trio stating, `No vocals allowed.` Kevin Figes is joined with Julie Tippetts on a `Gallop to nowhere.` Then its Martin Kershaw`s `Playtime.` with fascinating `Morse code through the lights.` Last, but by no means least, is a special request to a jazz friend and artist in Moscow, Людмила Каплина. One from Ornette Coleman – Blue Note Records and his and Prime Time band including Pat Metheny Live at Montreal (1988). Alex, who has a Licentiate diploma from the Guildhall School of Music, plays saxophone and flute in a wide variety of ensembles including small jazz groups, big bands and folk and barn-dance bands, as well as being a saxophone teacher and co-host of the hugely popular ‘Maltings Lunchtime Jazz’ sessions at Farnham Maltings.

Henley Jazz Workshop 28 July – 1 August
28 July – 1 August 2025 – Henley Jazz Workshop for adult beginners and improvers will be holding its annual workshop at Valley Road School in Henley, featuring an impressive tutor line-up of Karen Sharp, Alex Clarke, Simon Allen and Denny Ilett, with Andy Crowdy overseeing the workshop as musical director. With emphasis on improvisation techniques, but still small-group based, this year’s places are going quickly.
The workshop culminates with an evening meal and drinks on 1 August, at the stunning Oaken Grove Vineyard in Fawley with the groups performing their favourite numbers.Please check availability before booking! Cost is £415 for the week, half price for those aged 18-25.
